A Perfect Storm
subtracting the hours
subtracting the shore
coming on like old vengeance
high winds at high tide
and, battering rain too.
(What else?)
as the dance floor clears
Nauset beaten back into history.
The land leaving
The rollers coming
— a tango
of geographic proportions.
Sea and dunes partnered
to a vanishing point.
Why Write
the eyes stutter in excitement
conjuring arguments–
it’s what happens,
madness never rests
going deep beneath a gathering cloud
juggling channels of the mind
on the right day…
the right words
to voice to paper
once hidden
where images were safe —
now
a poem
