'As You Pass' by Ceinwen Haydon

I’m nearly able to touch love
inside your faint heartbeats
but not quite
though our chain will break before daylight

we tried so hard for years and years
today      far beyond fear of failure
I hold your cold hand

in your long last days I’ve been haunted
by desire to be freed      to breath alone

my dreams now realised      only loneliness remains
