'i'm sorry i didn't call' by J. S. Roseman

time is a line
a smile so tender

lines either intersect
or they have
or they don’t

parallel, but
just out of reach
easier not to have
than to have, knowing
that it’s something
you might lose

i guess what i mean is
is easier
than heartbreak
that kinda sound like elvis
don’t it?

two lines
one moves far from memphis
the other doesn’t see
until itself across the atlantic
too late and awkward
to say
(why did i leave)
